Alpha Test

Thank you so much for being interested in Alpha testing Paced Breathing! Below are the instructions:

IMPORTANT: Alpha versions of the app will have bugs – ranging from small ui glitches to crashes and lost Paced Breathing data. If that would frustrate you, do NOT use it!

iOS

Go here and follow the instructions!

FYI: the above instructions basically amount to:

  1. Get Apple’s TestFlight app
  2. Opt into Paced Breathing testing program
    • NOTE: it’ll say it’s a ‘beta’, but it’s really ‘alpha’!
  3. Download the alpha through the TestFlight app

Android

  1. Leave the Beta program — (if you’re in it)
    • Go here
    • Click “Leave the Program”
    • NOTE: if it says “Become a Tester”, you’re not enrolled in the beta and can skip this step
  2. Join the Alpha group — (to gain access to the Alpha program)
    • Go to here
    • Click “Join Group”
    • Click “Join Group” again in the pop-up
    • NOTE: we won’t be sending emails in that group, so you don’t need to adjust any of the settings
  3. Join the Alpha program
    • Go here
    • Verify the last sentence that starts with “Send your feedback…” ends with the email address “paced-breathing-alpha-testers@googlegroups.com”!
      • NOTE: If it doesn’t, it means the previous step hasn’t fully gone into affect yet, try waiting a minute and refreshing the page.
    • Click “Become a tester”
  4. Wait ~1 minute — (it takes a bit for the alpha setting to propagate)
  5. Update/Install Paced Breathing in the Play Store (direct link)

FAQ

“How is this different from beta testing?”
Betas are more stable and tested for about a week before wider release. Alphas, however, come much earlier in development and go to a smaller group to gather feedback on new features.

Android: I don’t see the alpha in the Play Store”
You’re probably seeing a cached / old version of the Play Store page because it saves app pages you’ve seen before to load faster — You can either wait a few minutes and load the Play Store page again or clear your Play Store cache (long press the Play Store icon, click the (i) or ‘App Info’ button, click ‘Storage & cache’, click ‘Clear cache’)

“Android: I want to leave the alpha!”

  1. Go here and leave the group
  2. Go to Paced Breathing in the Play Store (direct link)
(if you still see the alpha, see the above problem)
  3. Click ‘Update’

“iOS: I want to leave the alpha!”

  1. Open the TestFlight app
  2. Click on Paced Breathing
  3. Scroll to the bottom
  4. Click “Stop Testing” and confirm
  5. Go to that App Store and download Paced Breathing (direct link)
NOTE: this last step is important because it reverts you back to the public version of the app

“iOS: It says I have to repurchase PacedBreathing+”
This is a limitation from Apple. Subscriptions while alpha testing are totally separate from subscriptions outside of the alpha. This is so alpha users can test out free and paid features without actually having to pay. This means that:

  • If you bought PacedBreathing+ outside the alpha only, you will have to re-signup when you join the alpha BUT that alpha subscription is free, so you won’t be charged again.
  • If you signed-up for PacedBreathing+ inside the alpha only (which is free), then when you leave the alpha OR the alpha version gets publicly released, you will lose access to PacedBreathing+
  • If you bought PacedBreathing+ outside the alpha and signed up for it inside the alpha, you’ll see no difference (you’ll always have PacedBreathing+)
  • If you didn’t buy PacedBreathing+ outside the alpha nor inside the alpha, you’ll see no differences (you’ll never have PacedBreathing+)
